Objective
Pupils look in detail at the logo used by the CWS

Timing : 1 hour

Description
The CWS was the most powerful co-op in the UK. It was responsible for developing many of the indivdual societies we see today. It is now known as the Co-operative Group. This activity looks at the company's logo through the years.

Implementation

  • Explain the symbolism in the wheatsheaf symbol.
  • Compare this to the values of the Co-operative Group..
  • Look at how the logo has changed over the years. Write about this and the imagery used.
  • Investigate other uses of the 'Wheatsheaf'
