Christmas Fayre 2014
Festive fun at the Christmas Fayre
Thank you all for making our Christmas Fayre on Saturday 8th November 2014 a HUGE success. Although the weather was wet and windy, it did not deter the enthusiastic Christmas shoppers who turned out and were rewarded with an afternoon of festive fun! 68 children met Santa, who had almost lost his voice by the end of the afternoon and the café served 104 afternoon teas! 10RL ran a car wash and, although the weather was against them, they soldiered on.
With the popularity of the Great British Bake Off the raffle was eagerly awaited as the prize was a Mary Berry cook book. We had 2 sessions of festive bingo and it was certainly ‘eyes down’ as the full house were gripped with excitement wondering if they had the winning card. Of course the chocolate prizes for a line and full house were the coveted prizes There were a wide array of stalls and many of us began our Christmas shopping. We could name the hedgehog with 7JW, guess the chosen Santa with 7LE, have a go on the chocolate tombola with the Geography Iceland group, purchase a variety of home made Christmas gifts on the stalls run by DT and 7JK, see what fantastic work the L.A.P group do in the local community and finish off the afternoon with a nice cup of tea.
The scout drumming band from Porthill was magnificent and we were amazed by the talent on display. They had a busy weekend as they were also playing at a Remembrance service the following day.
The majority of school run stalls were raising money for the two Christmas appeals we support in school. The first is Operation Christmas Child shoe boxes, helping children over the world, and the Salvation Army Toy appeal that support local children. Thank you to all who helped make the afternoon so enjoyable. It was wonderful that so many supported the Christmas Fayre and we look forward to our next co-operative community event.
