Our work with the Co-operative Movement

The values of the Co-operative Movement
All co-operatives throughout the world must adopt these values and principles if they are to remain a co-operative. As each
co-operative is totally indepenent these shared values make them part of an international family.

Our school has adopted these values as its core values and interprets them to help develop our young people to become effcetive citizens in their future.

Sir Thomas Boughey High School is one of the first Co-operative Business Colleges in the UK.

As part of this initiative we have been successful in gaining major sponsorship from the UK's largest co-operative society, the Co-operative Group (CWS) based in Manchester.

"These links will help transform our already successful school into one offering even better opportunities for our you people. Business and Information Technology will play an important part in our young people's future, as we are already known for our high quality ICT this is a natural development"

As a Co-operative Business College we aim to give a balanced view of business activity by including Co-operative & Mutual ways of running a business within the curriculum as well as the PLC model.

"Many schools only concentrate on the PLC model and fail show young people the vital contribution that social enterprises such as mutuals and
co-operatives play in our modern society"

Our school is fortunate in being supported by not only the Co-operative Group but also by the hundreds of other Co-operative Businesses across the UK.

Our school is currently currently exploring the possiblity of changing our status into a community owned Educational Co-operative. For details about the consulation process please our front page.
