Lady Taverners Girls Indoor Cricket Competition

STB entered the Lady Taverners Cricket Competition held at Fenton Manor. The girls have had several weeks of coaching by Phil Johnson of Audley CC and took part in the day long indoor event. STB are the only Newcastle District team to enter the competition.

The under 13 girls were put in a tough group with Blythe Bridge and Denstone and had to play them twice each, with the winning team going through to the semi finals.

In the games against Denstone STB lost by 39 runs and 44 runs, struggling to compete with the County batters in their team. Against Blythe, the games were much closer and STB won by 1 run in the first game and by 9 runs in the second game. The best runner up from the 3 groups would also be selected to play in the semi finals, but unfortunately our run rate was not high enough to go through. Well done to: Chloe Myatt, Sarah Moore, Lucy Shenton, Eleanor Connelly, Megan Jackson, Grace Roberts, Isabelle Beeston, Lottie Carman, Maisie Scott Jones and Jersey Day.

The U15 team played the next day with Megan Jones as captain. In this competition, there was a round robin style competition where every team played each other. The indoor game is very different to the outdoor one, which some of our girls are used to playing in clubs for. They improved as the day went on, particularly with the accuracy of the bowling, where a wide counted for 3 runs to the batting team. Megan Jones and Bethan Moore both scored a 15 not out and had to retire, as per the rules.

STB won vs Blythe Bridge by 18 runs, lost vs St Josephs by 20 runs, lost vs Painsley by 21 runs and lost vs Abbotsholme by 30 runs. The results show that the indoor game is difficult to predict. The eventual winners were Blythe Bridge who only lost one game and that was against STB! The team are looking forward to training for the outdoor competition in the summer term.

Well done to: Katie Turner, Ellie Ecclestone, Nicole Turner, Bethan Moore, Shannon Fahey, Fay Ashley, Niamh Hartless, Megan Jones and Shannon Stokes.
