Success for young film makers -Sept 2005

It's lights, camera, action for budding young filmmakers from Sir Thomas Boughey
Co-operative Business College who will have their short film shown at the prestigious film festival sponsored by the Co-operative Group.

Sir Thomas Boughey is one of the new Co-op Business Specialist Colleges established through an innovative project by the Co-operative Group and the Co-operative College. Headteacher, David Boston commented that the support from the Co-operative Group and College has had a remarkable effect on the school and this is just one of the excellent new developments at the school.

Three Year 11 Drama students from Sir Thomas Boughey, Angela Jones, Gemma Bullock and Rachael Woodward will have their film 'Revenge is Sweet' screened at the
Co-operative Young Film Makers Festival which is being held on 14th and 15th October at Bradford's National Museum of Photography, Film and Television.

The entry was one of only a few chosen from more than 360 productions entered by young film-makers, schools, youth groups, arts groups, colleges and video workshops from across the UK and beyond. Some entries came from as far afield as Italy and Sweden.

The chosen films, all under 6 minutes long, will be shown over nine screenings throughout the two-day event and include drama, documentary, animation and comedy films.

The Co-operative Film-Makers Festival is organised by the Co-operative Group, the UK's largest consumer-owned co-op, and has provided young people with the opportunity to air their films on the big screen since 1966.

Festival organiser Phaedra Patrick said: " The film Festival provides young people with the chance to express themselves on film and also develop new skills, whether experienced film-makers or first-timers."

In addition to the film screenings, there will be special events and workshops from film and television experts about creating special effects, stage fighting, animation techniques, how to make a chat show and Vjing. Young Film-Makers will also have the chance to shoot a location video of the rock band Million Dead and meet top stuntman, Roy Alon, who worked on blockbuster Troy and is about to film stunts for Mission Impossible 3.
