STB vs Madeley
Year 8 and 9 Girls Football Competition
STB 1 vs 0 Madeley
The Year 8 and 9 girls played their final match last night in the 7 a side District competition. Before the start of play, STB were top of the league having own or drawn all games, but with both Madeley and Clayton close behind it was all was to be decided with the final game of STB vs Madeley. Madeley started the stronger team and had a couple of early chances. The defence stood firm however and started to press the Madeley midfield and defence. It seemed as though no one was going to get a goal, as the teams were evenly balanced. STB continued to work extremely hard. Charlie Awde managed to steal the ball in midfield and played a great pass to Emma Hancock, who hit a great shot which came off the post, but she manged to hit the rebound into the goal, for STB to lead 1-0 with 8 minutes to play.
STB threatened to score again but then a breakaway by Madeley’s best player in the last minute resulted in a nerve wracking finish, but again the STB defence held firm and cleared the danger. The final whistle blew and STB were crowned champions.
The girls now go on to represent Newcastle in the School Games in February.
