Wilkommen, Bienvenue, Welcome …

At Sir Thomas Boughey High School, the Modern Foreign Languages Department is a lively and busy department made up of five teachers. Our aim is to give every student the opportunity to enjoy and embrace the study of one or two foreign languages: French and German, but to also realise the importance of any language on an international level.

French and German are mostly taught in the Languages Area with all students offered the opportunity to study both languages. Our new Language Club also runs every Wednesday lunchtime in room 22 with a vast amount of activities.

The STB MFL Department is determined to give pupils the skills needed to learn and use a modern foreign language as well as provide plenty of opportunity to experience an authentic taste of the cultures which are studied.

The ability to understand and communicate in other languages is increasingly important in the modern world. Knowledge of languages allows our pupils to be a part of the cultural and linguistic diversity of our society; promoting mutual understanding, success in international trade and a feeling of global citizenship.
