‘The Lost Boys’ Project

On Thursday 19th May 6 Yr 10 Pupils went to Newcastle College to work with Artist Stephen Dixon on ‘The Lost Boys’ project. The stories of underage soldiers from Staffordshire killed in the First World War were the inspiration for creating some beautiful pieces of art.

Maddie Ball, Ellie Ecclestone, Esmee Holt, Alex Reeve, Hannah Hannon and Charlotte Fone all took part in the workshop session, where they learned a new technique of making beeswax stamps of images they had sketched of soldiers. The stamps were then used to make plaster casts and then the images were imprinted on to squares of paper porcelain. Some pupils put lettering on their work, many chose to put the age of the solider which highlighted just how young some of the casualties of the war were.

The pupils work will go on to Manchester Metropolitan University to make up part of a larger exhibition later this year.
