Year 10 ‘Operating Theatre Live’ Day at South Cheshire College
On Thursday 2nd March, fifteen Y10 pupils had the opportunity to take part in ‘Operating Theatre Live’ at South Cheshire College.
Accompanied by Mr Cumberland and Mrs Griffin, pupils got the chance to study the human anatomy in depth and to learn about what are the real challenges and benefits of working in Science, Medicine or Veterinary science.
Led by a team of experts in human anatomy pupils were shown how the various systems of the body work using pig organs which are almost identical to a human’s. Set in a mock-operating theatre, all the pupils were given tasks throughout the day such as removing a brain, transplanting a heart and intubating a lung. The day was fascinating and inspiring and many of the pupils have definitely decided on a career in medicine in the future. Ewan Bates said “the day was an incredibly inspiring experience”.
